How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Kerry McCoy attended a fashion merchandising college in Dallas, TX and graduated in 1974 at the top of her class and was ready to hit the job
market with confidence. The recession hit first. “When the economy is bad and people are broke, the first thing they give up is dining out and
buying clothes. Just my luck. My new industry was hit the hardest. No one was hiring. In fact they were cutting back” said McCoy.
Determined not to give up, McCoy rolled up her sleeves and took a job selling flags door-to-door with a company named Betsy Ross Flag Girls.
She knew nothing about the product accept it was made out of material and she had gone to school to learn about fashion. McCoy recalls, “You know how you always hear history repeats itself. Well, it does... that is not just a cliché. Even in my short life I have seen it. For instance, today with high gas prices, all the talk of recession and kids coming out of any school only to find the job market less than desirable, it is eerily similar to the 1970’s when I came out of school.”
She soon found that the cost of gas was more than her paycheck, so she returned home to Little Rock....but this time with a plan. In 1975, with a mere $400 in her savings account, she took charge of her own destiny and began her own flag company Arkansas’ FlagandBanner.com. For 40 years the company has grown and morphed into a $3 million a year company selling not only flags and banners from stock to custom and also patriotic gift items and Razorback fan gear.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We are the only flag store that also sells patriotic gift items and apparel.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
One location in Little Rock, Arkansas and a sales person in the Fayetteville area but our website sells world wide and has done so since 1995.

We are located just off I-630 in Little Rock, Arkansas at 800 West 9th Street. We are on the corner of State and 9th. You can't miss us, we have a huge flag pole and our building can easily be seen from I-630.
